CASE STUDY
Forward Looking when it comes to new regulation.
DESCRIPTION
Many gas co-ops have a high pressure pipeline that was either existing, or inherited from TC Energy in the recent past. Since these pipelines are high pressure steel lines, they are governed under the regulations of the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) under Directive 56.
CHALLENGE
Presently the AER is placing more focus on gas co-operatives since they operate similar to larger midstream companies. Audits are slowly starting to include water crossings, and the requirement for a depth of cover study for pipelines crossing under named water bodies.
OUR METHOD
Our ownership group has extensive experience in pipelines under water crossings, along with having been the main liaison with the AER for Pembina Pipeline. We offer the depth of cover study at a small cost in addition to a leak survey as long as the crossing is not deeper than 4 feet. We utilize current practises to take data samples and provide an engineer report.
RESULT
We help keep gas co-ops in compliance for future areas the AER may start placing a focus on. Our procedures help create cost savings by completing these depth of cover studies during our line walks.
